Throughout the course of unit 1, I have researched a lot of artists like Erwin Wurm, Bruce Davidson etc. I have experienced what photography is actually like. I have learnt some many different techniques on photography from using the dark room to street photography to my recent project absurd.
An artist that I took inspiration from was Ion Zupcu. He was using paper made edges so I started to make origami because it has a lot of edges and that's what I was focusing on in the 4 project that we could do. I found Zupcu of Pinterest when I was working on the edges project. An important aspect which I have learnt from his work was that he took the images from a really close view and it's slightly unfocused. I decided to make my finals piece like Zupcu as it was the most interesting and most fun I had to do the project. My experiments on edges were really easy for me to do because there're edges everywhere. After doing experiments on Ion Zupcu's work, I researched Luara Letinsky, I don't really like her work because I don't really understand what she's doing with the bowl of fruits and glasses. After that, I decided that I will take images of edges and then make them into origamis which were really successful.
After edges, I started doing contrast. It was really fun at first because I got to do a photoshoot which was a great experience because I finally experienced what a photoshoot was really like and since I was focusing on contrast we can change how the light works and where we place them to make the image have a different tone and contrast. The artist that inspired my work would be Daido Moriyama. His photos are allowed in black and white, which is really contrasted. However my experiments are really different because I saw some images joined together to make one long, so I decided to so something like that but the technique of contrast is inspired by Daido Moriyama. When n I first started doing split images, it was the hardest thing I have ever done, as you can see on my website. The 2nd experiment didn't go very well as well because I still haven't gotten used to taking 2 images but making them connect. After a few more experiments I started to get used to the technique. For my final pieces, I have 3 of the splits images, I think the images are really good and the contrast of it really good. I edited the images in photoshop, however, it was only to put the images together.
Another artist who inspired my work was Peter Keetman. His image of the water on the window was amazing, that inspired me to try and do something like that but it was no way near as good as his. Also, his work is mostly close up same as Ion Zupcu, however, Keetman's work is really focused in the foreground. His work is really abstracted as it's not really difficult to understand what's going on in the image. My experiments for this project was an adventure because I had no idea what to do in the first place it was so hard at first, my images weren't to the standard that I want it to be like. However as the project passed by, I started to understand how to make the images more abstracted and better. This is because I chose to focus on lines and light, so that made my images look so much better than before. In my final piece of the project: abstraction. My final piece was inspired by Keetman. I tried making it as close as possible so there's not going to be a lot in the background so it's really abstracted.
The final project I did Absurd. To me this was the best project out of all the ones I have done, this is because it was the most interesting and where I believe I actually did really well on this project. I researched artists such as Erwin Wurm, David Shrigley, Julian Beever and Kevin Corrado. Wurm's photography is based on hiding, his images are people without faces and with a really weird object on themselves. My response to that was, I guess not too good and not too bad so in the middle. I started taking photos of hiding that home, however, it wasn't successful at all so I did it again and it got better and better. After that, I moved on to doing signs, inspired by David Shrigley. I find his work hilarious because the drawings he does is super simple and it doesn't make any sense at all. After that, I research Julian Beever, I didn't any experiments for this artist because it would be physically impossible for me to even try as the it is that hard. It would literally take me about a few weeks for to me to learn how to do what Beever do. After that I research Kevin Corrado, his work is mostly based on photoshop which is what I want to do. My experiments were based on forced perspective. This was really hard for me to do as well because you can't see it with the naked eye so you have to have a camera to know how the image is going work out. My final pieces were inspired by Kevin Corrado, the photoshop work. That was really interesting because his work is really good and strange that the same time.
