Image Evaluation 1: WHY IS IT ABSURD
Image Evaluation 2: ABSURD?!
The image was taking by Erwin Wurm. I think this image is a person's arm being trapped in a chair. I think this image is absurd because position of the chair on top of the person is really ridiculous because its not normal to put a chair on top of your head. I also think the image is really hilarious because of the person's being trap inside the chairs. I really like this image because its different to a lot of absurd images. This image is absurd because it makes you think how did he get into that position.

I really like this set of image because i know what i was doing and some of the images are good and some of them aren't really good. I was trying to hide people and put the caution sign on random things. I was inspired by David Shrigley, he takes image on signs and draw. I used an iPhone for this set of images and i got some friends to model for me. I also used a caution sign as you can see in my images. Image 3 worked really well because the shadow isn't normal because theres 2 shadows. Also i think image 5 worked really well because the hiding worked and you can see the person arms, so i think that work really well. However image 6 didn't work that well because i should of taking the image another way, with a different background because the image is too plain and it doesn't show why the floor is caution. I should focus on one thing instead of trying to do 2 things in 1 set of image. If i did this away i would of focused on hiding instead of signs.

Evaluation |
For this set of images i think i could done a lot better if i have made the person have they hands and foots out so the viewers would understand what i was trying to do. Also instead of throwing clothes on top the person i could of just made them go underneath a bed or hiding in a closet with they arms or legs out. For my next experiment i can have someone wear a mask and have the person doing something weird. I think the idea for set of images isn't bad however it needs improvement because it looks like its just only a pile of clothes on the floor, its pretty normal.

Experiment #2
I this set of images are really good because i understood what i was doing. My favourite image from this set is image number 6 because the person is hiding however he also have a face, i also really the positioning of this image because the person is in the middle so it focuses all on him and the background is pretty plain as well. I can do better by planning what i want to before i took the images and also if the weather wasn't bad on that day the images would be a lot better because i would have a lot more ideas outside then i would have inside.
Home experiment #2
Evaluation
For this set image i focusing on hiding, I was inspired by Erwin Wurm because of how simple and easy it is to do. I used an iPhone camera to take these images and i used a person to model for me. I think image 9 worked really because the person in the image blends in with the branches. The person was also hiding so it has that absurd effect which what i was focusing on. Image 4 didn't work because the position of the dolls doesn't look like its hiding. If i did this again i could of have focused more on the position of the images. I want to work on signs because you can do anything with signs, also i can put anything on the signs.
David Shrigley
David Shrigley is known for his drawing style. His signs are on everyday situation and human interaction. His drawing is really quick witted and it has a type of humour. He re-uses themes and ideas to capture his story telling child like views of the world. I think his images are really simple and easy because he doesn't have to really much expect think of something funny. In the first image i see a tiger who like to eat people!

Signs #1
Evaluation
For this set of images, I focused on signs. I think this theme of absurd is really good because you can be so creative with it. I was inspired by David Shrigley although he does something different to what i was trying to do, he still used signs. I used an iPhone to take the images and i used post it notes and paper to write on for my signs. I think image 1 worked really well because the sign doesn't make any sense because the sign is made of paper.

Evaluation
For this set of image I focused on signs and I make them as stupid as possible. For example the table isn't glass, its wood when its clearly glass. I really like this set of image because the signs are really stupid and i have spent a lot of time on these signs and I tried to take images outside however I couldn't really think of any ideas to place the signs on. I really like the sign "Caution dry floor" because it should say wet floor because dry floor isn't slippery. Next time I can think of better places to take images on these signs because a lot the signs have plain background, its just white. The thing that makes these signs absurd is none of them make any sense and the last one is an advertisement, i also like image 4 because only a few people would understand the sign. It basically mean I will say rude things about you if you make me angry. When I look at the signs i think of things that make me laugh.
Forced Perspective
Artist Research |
Julian Beever |
Julian focuses on chalk drawing on the pavements. The draw comes up in 3d on a camera however its not to the naked eye. As you can see in the image on the right. The image is called "Another World" I think this has inspired me to do something like that when i start taking images of forced perspective. I think this image is really good because when drawing is on camera it makes it look 3d. This makes it absurd because its really unusual that you can see another world through a hole.

Forced Perspective
Evaluation
In this set of images, I tried my best to make them look real as the images are taken in a different angle. The first image is him sitting on a pole however the background is tilted in a 90 degree angle. The second image didn't come out very well, it would of been better if i took the image from the side so you can see the effect. The 3rd image is pretty similar to the 4th image however the 4th image is more surreal because the person is looking straight whereas the person in the third image is looking at the camera and the you can see the background. The technique for this set of images are just tilting the camera and getting the person to sit or lay down side ways. The images kind of reminds me of this image:
The tone of these images are pretty doll because its not too light but its a bit dark. If i took the images the normally it would look really weird because the people would just ask: 'why is he laying down on the floor?' . I think this project is really interest because the image above looks really fun to do.

Kevin Corrado
Evaluation
I think Corrado's images are really interesting because its all based on photoshop and thats what i want to do. The second image out of these 10 images are is the best one in my opinion because the way he has developed the images are really fascinating. The way the image is composed, you can only see the arms and legs of the person as the body has been cropped out. The tone of the image is doll as the image is in black and white. As the image is black and white it mades the contrast more apparent. The arms and the floating objects are more darker than the legs, this makes the the foreground easier to see than the background. The background is really simple and blurry, so the image is focused on the foreground. The depth of field is really deep as the background is far away from the background.
Developed Experiment |
Evaluation |
I think this image is really good because it looks real. I used the person twice because it wouldn't be as absurd if it was different people however the background isn't mine, this is could be my next improvement: use my own background (primary sources). I done this on photoshop, i cropped the person out from 2 different images and placed on the background I got from the internet. I made the background red because i want the person looking at the image to focus on the person in the image. I was trying to make the person look like his hanging off a cliff the and the other person watching him hang there and not helping. I would name this image: "Help?! Ima die!". This is because his literally hanging of a cliff and the other person is not helping.

Further Experiment
Evaluation
For this set of images i am taking images of people standing still in a weird way and i took a photo of a background so I can put the people on top of the building. I was trying to make it simple so i can edit them on photoshop, also i think the set of images are successful as I used them on a final piece. The tone of the set of images are really dark because I was taking the images from a low angle looking up wards. I think the images are good because i have developed the images from the forced perspective tilt images from hanging to photoshop. I did this because i can develop this on photoshop and I used my own images as the background which is what i wanted to do in my last developed experiment. I can do better by making the images look the this:
Experiment
Evaluation
This set of images is for my second final piece. I was think to make a lot of the person in an image for my final piece because you wouldn't find the same person in an image more than once unless if you edit the image and what I done. I think i could of done better if the persons full body was showing because it would be hard for me edit if want to move the body somewhere else because you cant see the whole body so it would look really weird and fake. However I think the images tones and contrast is really good because the way the tone and contrast is mixed together makes it look really good. I also think the images in black and white is really good.
Process of working on Adobe Photoshop.
Final Piece
That first, I was struggling because I didn't even understand what absurd means, so it took time for me learn what to do with this project. For this project, I was focusing on Absurd and the artists that I researched are Erwin Wurm and David Shrigley, one works on hiding and the other works on signs and drawings. I also researched on forced perspectives, the artist i research for it was Julian Beaver however I couldn't do any work inspired by him because it would take too long and it would be too hard. I then went on to researching force perspective tilt. I really enjoyed doing that because it was fun however it was hard to do because you have to think of the ways for it to work. My work went from doing hide to signs to force perspective however I have sticked with forced perspective because it was the most interesting and fun to do. At first when I was doing force perspective it was really hard however it get easier and instead of taking a long take images like that I decided to take simple images and edit them on photoshop. At first the theme I focused on was hide, that was really simple to do, in my opinion. This is because all I had to do was get someone to hide under an object or wear a mask. Then I went on to do signs, inspired by David Shrigley, I didn't really enjoy doing signs because I find it super boring and I had to think alot to make a sign, that is really stupid and absurd. After signs I focused on forced perspective, I enjoyed that the most and it was the most difficult. This is also the theme I developed on the most. I made all my final pieces based on this theme. My ideas changes as I started research and experiment more on this project. The work I did was really different compared to my classmates this is because most of my work was developed through Photoshop. All of my photos are landscape and most of it is inspired by the artist or theme I researched.
The experiments that I carried out is really simple as you can see if you scroll up a bit. The technique I used was taking images from a low angle, this is because you can get a really great view from the background and it also gives you a large degree of perspective. My work is refined because the images are really clear and simple. The way I developed my work through Adobe Photoshop because Photoshop allows you too do almost everything. In my experiments I don't really use a lot materials, all I need is a SLR digital camera and a person to help me to model so I can edit them around on Photoshop. First I take multiple images of the same person doing different poses in the same angle after that I get a clear image on the background. After that I develop the images on Photoshop, I mess around with the images until I think its really absurd but absurd enough for my likings. On Photoshop I use the gradient level and the exposure level to control the lighting of the images and then I use the colour overlay to make the images more lively or more doll, depending on what I feel like doing with the images. My decisions to refine and develop my work through Photoshop because Photoshop is really easy to use and the tools are really useful for what I'm doing, which is removing the person from one image and adding it to another images. The thing that went well in this project was, The outcome of the experiments when its develop is really good in my opinions. I have improved my skills with takings images inspired by artists. My researching skills has also improved but not a lot. The most challenging thing about this project is was at the start because I had no idea what I had to do because I didn't understand the meaning of absurd. Also another challenging thing about this project was when I started doing force perspective, this is because you have to know have to how to angle yourself to make the images look right. I didn't really develop my investigation, I have only research on 3 artists and I have barely do a lot of experiments that are based on them.
